Connecting with Teachers and Students through National History Day - Live Webinar

Webinar Description

National History Day is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of history. NHD reaches more than half a million students and tens of thousands of teachers each year via its international student history contest and its wide range of teacher professional development programs, curriculum tools, and other educational activities.

NHD’s core program is a competition in which students in grades 6–12 choose a topic and dive deeply into the past by conducting extensive research in libraries, archives, and museums. They then present their conclusions and evidence through papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, or websites, moving through a series of contest levels where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators. 

Museums and historic sites can get involved with this national program by working with both teachers and students to conduct research, share expertise, host events, and more. In this webinar, speakers from National History Day, the Tennessee Historical Society, the Utah Historical Society, and a small house museum will discuss how engagement with NHD can expand your institution’s footprint, fulfill your mission, and provide professional development for staff.

This webinar will especially help organizations enrolled in STEPS address multiple standards under the  Audience and Community Engagement section of the STEPS program.

The Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (STEPS) from AASLH is a self-study, self-paced assessment tool designed specifically for small- to mid-sized history organizations, including volunteer-run institutions. Through a workbook, online resources, and an online community, organizations enrolled in STEPS review their policies and practices and benchmark themselves against national standards.

How to Register for this Event

Cancellation/Refunds for onsite workshops must be submitted in writing via email to [email protected] or mail to 2021 21st Ave S., Suite 320 Nashville, TN 37212. Cancellations made prior to the early-bird registration deadline date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made between the early-bird deadline date and eight days prior to the workshop will be subject to a $55 processing/materials charge. No refunds will be given within seven days of the workshop date. AASLH is not responsible for cancellations that were mailed or emailed but never received.

Cancellations made prior to the start date for the online course or the day of the webinar will be given a full refund. No refund will be given after the start date for the online course or on/after the day of the webinar. Registrants may transfer their registration to another person.
