As a leader, have you ever had to address employee concerns when they do not feel your organization is inclusive or equitable? Do you have the resources to engage employees to celebrate differences and not feel ashamed of their own cultural/gender identity? This leadership webinar will define crucial conversations and how DEI initiatives are tangled within the communication web and will provide some insight on the challenges leaders have with navigating conversations with employees, peers, and leadership about inclusiveness. Through Crucial Conversations from an HR Perspective, leaders will be provided tools to help their organization transform into a safe space for employees to openly engage in DEI conversations, while garnering executive leadership support for crucial conversations as a continued corporate initiative. At the completion of the webinar, leaders should be able to improve the way they navigate crucial conversations regarding diversity, equity and inclusion, while building better relationships to exert the concept of "belonging" in and out of the workplace.
Connecting the Content
This webinar is open to anyone but will especially help organizations enrolled in STEPS address Management (MGMT) 4 (The institution has appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of people, its collections and/or objects, and the facilities it owns or uses) and 8 (The institution complies with local, state, and federal laws, codes and regulations applicable to its facilities, operations, and administration).
The Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (STEPS) is a self-study, self-paced assessment tool designed specifically for small- to mid-sized history organizations, including volunteer-run institutions. Through a workbook, online resources, and an online community, organizations enrolled in STEPS review their policies and practices and benchmark themselves against national standards.
Webinar Audience
This webinar will be beneficial to most institutions and all are welcome to attend but leadership (executive leadership teams, executive directors, guidance teams) of organizations that do not have a specific HR representative.

Vivian Simons-Profit, Ed.D
Dr. Vivian Simons-Profit is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. She is a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and lifelong learner. Dr. Profit has an extensive educational background in Human Resources and Organizational Management, with a Bachelor of Science and Dual Master of Science degrees within the respective fields and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on Human Resources and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Charleston Southern University. Serving in the role of Director of Human Resources and liaison for the diversity council for a Fortune 300 company in Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Profit has a passion for educating, advocating, and motivating a growing diverse workforce. Dr. Vivian Simons-Profit is a self-published author, with her works focusing on self-love, Christianity, growth, DE&I initiatives and finding balance as a young working professional. In 2022, she released two journals, Affirmations of the Heart, focusing on self-love and Christian devotion and Have Fun, Have Faith, Find Love, a couple’s journal for young adults looking to navigate their faith and romance within a fast-paced society. In May of 2022, she published her dissertation entitled The Development of Leadership Styles of African American Human Resources Administrators and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives. Dr. Profit's third book, The Mind, The Maze, The Mission: 365 Human Resources Tips for Retention and Business Sustainability will be released March 2023. Dr. Vivian Simons-Profit loves spending time with her family, cooking, and laughter. Her faith is very important as she lives by Jeremiah 29:11. Her goal in her works is to continue to advocate for more equitable and diverse environments for women, minorities, and the elderly. Her motto is “if I can help someone along the way, then my living will not be in vain.” Dr. Profit resides with her husband and daughter in Summerville, South Carolina.
