Webinar Description
Debates around artificial intelligence, use cases, and ethics are everywhere, including in the field of state and local history. With these powerful tools come serious concerns about bias, job loss, copyright, and environmental impact. Can AI tools help with administrative, research, interpretation, and presentation work at history organizations? Can we use them to help us understand, interpret, and share our collections and the historical stories we tell, and to help our communities understand the past and its value?
Join Robert Becker of the Keizer Heritage Museum, a small museum in Oregon, for a discussion on demystifying what AI actually is, what it can do in our field, and its limits. Come learn how responsible AI use can streamline workflows, aid with administrative and some interpretive work, and help your team serve the community more effectively.
Attendees of this webinar will also receive a free copy of Technical Leaflet #308, "AI for Local History Organizations."

Connecting the Content
This webinar will especially help organizations enrolled in STEPS address multiple standards under the Interpretation section of the STEPS program.
The Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (STEPS) from AASLH is a self-study, self-paced assessment tool designed specifically for small- to mid-sized history organizations, including volunteer-run institutions. Through a workbook, online resources, and an online community, organizations enrolled in STEPS review their policies and practices and benchmark themselves against national standards.
