The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented crisis in our local communities, country, and world. Many are seeking answers and guidance during this time, and AASLH has been listening to the concerns from the history community. In response, we are offering more online content including the new AASLH Conversations webinar series. While no one has all the answers, we hope these topic-focused conversations will provide a space to share ideas to help us all keep moving forward.
We know many organizations are facing financial strain due to the pandemic, so we developed AASLH Conversations with that in mind. We have drastically reduced the registration fee and are also providing a special promo code to waive the registration fee completely.

When we look back on the era of COVID-19, we will see it as a turning point for our field. Will we seize the potential of this transformative moment to reimagine our museums as workplaces, creating a more equitable, supportive, and creative profession? Join us to explore ways of using this crisis to address some of the legacy issues that have plagued museum workplaces - limited diversity, extreme wage inequity, siloed work environments, and need for professional development. How can today’s museum leaders become change agents to create stronger, healthier museum workplaces for the post-COVID professional world? This webinar will focus on 4 major areas ripe for changemaking, moving beyond critique to identify solutions. Speakers Kimberlee Kiehl and Michelle Moon will share resources for designing a more inclusive, supportive professional future, and present a set of practical planning tools and techniques for rethinking the way your organization works.

Dr. Kimberlee Kiehl was the Sr. VP of Experience & Operations at COSI until the elimination of her position due to the COVID crisis. Prior to this position, she held positions as Director of Museum of Ohio at Ohio History Connection, Executive Director of the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center, and was previously Chief Strategy and Operations Officer and Senior Vice President at COSI in Columbus. She was on the faculty of The Ohio State University as an Associate Professor from 1990 to 2000. Kimberlee holds a Ph. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University.
Michelle Moon is a leader in museum education and an independent consultant recognized for her work on programming, audience engagement, and the intersection of museums and civic issues. She has led education teams at historic sites and interdisciplinary museums including the Tenement Museum (NYC), where she served as Chief Program Officer; the Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, MA), Strawbery Banke, (Portsmouth, NH) and Mystic Seaport (Mystic, CT), and developed interpretation for more than 20 major exhibitions on art, culture, and history. In 2016, Moon completed a Master's degree with honors in Museum Studies at the Harvard Extension School, focusing on interpretive communication and the civic role of museums; she also holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and American Studies from Connecticut College and was selected by Mellon as an Animating Museums Fellow, 2016-19. She is the author of Interpreting Food at Museums and Historic Sites (Rowman & Littlefield, 2015) and (with Cathy Stanton) Public History and the Food Movement: Adding the Missing Ingredient (Routledge, 2017).
Cancellation/Refunds for onsite workshops must be submitted in writing via email or mail. Cancellations made prior to the early-bird registration deadline date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made between the early-bird deadline date and eight days prior to the workshop will be subject to a $55 processing/materials charge. No refunds will be given within seven days of the workshop date. AASLH is not responsible for cancellations that were mailed or emailed but never received.
Cancellations/Refunds for online continuing education (webinars and online courses) must be submitted in writing via email or mail. Cancellations made prior to the start date for the online course or the day of the webinar will be given a full refund. No refund will be given after the start date for the online course or on/after the day of the webinar. Registrants may transfer their registration to another person. Registrations cannot be transferred between courses or course sessions. AASLH is not responsible for cancellations that were mailed or emailed but never received.
