Take the Guesswork Out of Evaluations: How to Measure What Really Matters is an AASLH Continuing Education recorded webinar. This webinar is about evaluating your historic site. This event is presented by Conny Graft and is part of the StEPs Lab Webinar Series. Evaluating what your organization offers its audiences is no longer a best practice reserved only for well-funded institutions. History organizations of all sizes, even those operating on a shoestring budget, can and should evaluate their programs. How else will you know whether you are meeting visitors’ expectations?

In this webinar, guest speaker Conny Graft explains the three types of evaluation, common methods for each type (surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.), and the pros and cons of each method. Next, Conny discusses the importance of identifying outcomes for your exhibit or program. Using examples from several historic sites, she demonstrates how outcomes make planning an evaluation project easier and the data/feedback more meaningful. Finally, Conny outlines the steps for planning an evaluation project and offers tips for evaluation on a limited budget.

This webinar is part of the StEPs Lab series of online continuing education offered to both StEPs program participants and all others interested in evaluation and audience research. This is StEPs Lab 9.

Applying what you learn in a Lab to your policies and practices helps your organization make meaningful progress. For organizations enrolled in StEPs, the more progress you make the more boxes you can check off in the StEPs workbook. The more boxes you check off, the more Bronze, Silver, and Gold certificates your organization earns. And that translates into more credibility, more support, and an organization that is a valuable asset to its community for many more years to come.
