The New Hampshire Project: A Cultural Resource Database is an AASLH Technical Leaflet. AASLH Technical Leaflets are brief, practical guides on how to do history. Technical Leaflet #185 by Linda Betts Burdick tackles explains how the New Hampshire Project formed, beginning with feasibility studies. The New Hampshire Project is a statewide cultural database formed in the early 1990s that contains information about the cultural resources of New Hampshire. The project surveyed institutions across the state to determine their most significant collections. After receiving feedback, a follow-up survey asked for a description of the collection using the Collection Scope Form included in the leaflet. Once information was collected and entered in a database, a collections guide was printed and distributed to historical societies around the country. This case study shows how New Hampshire created a database of the state's collections and the benefits gained from it.
