Bringing up Boomer: Archival Care of Mid-Twentieth Century Media is an AASLH Technical Leaflet. AASLH Technical Leaflets are brief, practical guides on how to do history. Technical Leaflet #195 by Bruce Macleish and Greg Harris covers basic tips of how to properly mark and store photographs, photo albums, sound recordings, and film and video recordings. Since the end of the nineteenth century, more people have had access to photography and other forms of media. This access has led to an increase in the amount of material produced, leaving museums, archives, libraries, and historical institutions with a healthy historical record but also facing challenges of how to care for this mass of information. Bruce Macleish and Greg Harris explain what type of archival materials to use when storing these objects and how to handle objects properly to expand their lifespan for the historical record.
